Beautiful Flaws
My vision is to gather stories of women from all over the world into a photo book that celebrates their courage, joy and strength. In this book, flaws are to be honored. Burn scars, amputations, birthmarks, scars from crimes of politics, war, accidents, or rare genetic conditions like mine.* These are things that are beyond our control to change. But we can draw upon them as a source of wisdom and strength. This book will celebrate these highly evolved women and share their stories to help all women find their power and show that light can truly come within the darkest hour. Told through compelling photos and brief personal anecdotes, each story is a statement of inner fortitude and stands in stark contrast to the shallow and fleeting preferences of the Western media culture. Beautiful Flaws will be a book of truth, presenting women and their bodies as compelling examples of character and wisdom.
This project was created because of two major events in my life. I was severely handicapped for years and later in life spent six months in developing countries & learned about the beauty & wisdom of diverse cultures. My two passions have merged to create Beautiful Flaws. I have embarked upon a powerful journey, as I interview extraordinary women.
If you are intrigued by this project or know someone who might be interested in participating, I would be honored to connect with you. Together we can help inspire women to find the wisdom and truth within their own “flaws”. Please contact me at jen@wellsofwisdom.com
If you would like to help fund this project you can buy a necklace & some of the proceeds will go towards the creation of Beautiful Flaws. Please go to www.afrasiajewel.com to view multi-cultural necklaces. (example below)
”We must see all scars as beauty. This will be our secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.”
Little Bee, by Chris Cleave
* I have a condition called mixed connective tissue disease (an autoimmune disease), which caused dermatofybromas to appear on my body in my mid-twenties. These mole-like cysts can appear anywhere on my skin. There is no cure and only invasive treatment is available which leaves large scars. But as challenging as they once were to my confidence, they have come to be a symbol of my strength and a source of wisdom. They are my beautiful flaw.

What an inspiring project! Thanks for sharing your beauty with the world:)
Thanks Sasha!
